How Much Does Osteopathy Cost in Vancouver? Fees, Insurance and What to Expect

Osteopathy session fees and coverage

Last reviewed October 2026.

A single osteopathy session at Best Osteopathy costs between $105 and $220 CAD plus tax, depending on session length, treatment type and practitioner. A 60-minute assessment and treatment is $150 to $160, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. Most patients claim part of the cost back through an extended health plan. We provide a receipt after every session, and we do not currently offer direct billing.

This guide explains what each session length includes, what affects the price, how insurance works for osteopathy in BC, and which questions to ask your insurer before you book.

How Much Does Osteopathy Cost in Vancouver?

Fees at Best Osteopathy depend on how long you spend with your practitioner and the type of treatment you need. All prices below are in Canadian dollars and are plus tax.

  • Complementary consultation (15 minutes): free
  • Quick treatment session (30 minutes): $105
  • Brief treatment session (45 minutes): $125 to $135
  • Osteopathy assessment and treatment (60 minutes): $150 to $160
  • Cranial osteopathy (45 to 75 minutes): $120 to $200
  • Extended treatment session (90 minutes): $210 to $220

Each practitioner’s pricing differs by a few dollars depending on session type, so the exact fee is shown when you book online. For comparison, published initial-visit fees for osteopathy across Metro Vancouver commonly fall between roughly $110 and $150 CAD, so our 45-minute and 60-minute sessions sit in line with the regional range.

Our Brentwood Burnaby clinic also offers BioFlex Cold Laser Therapy combined with osteopathy. An initial 60-minute session that combines assessment, osteopathy and laser treatment is $150 to $160 plus tax, and follow-up 60-minute sessions are $130 to $140 plus tax.

What Affects the Cost of an Osteopathy Session?

Four things decide the price of a visit:

  • Session length. Longer sessions give more time for assessment, treatment and advice. Your first visit includes a health history, a physical assessment and, usually, treatment in the same session, so a longer session leaves more room for all three.
  • Type of treatment. Cranial osteopathy and other extended techniques are priced separately from a standard structural session.
  • Practitioner. Fees vary slightly between practitioners.
  • Number of visits. Total cost depends on how many sessions your condition needs. Our guide on how many osteopathy sessions you need gives honest estimates by condition.

Is Osteopathy Covered by Insurance in BC?

Coverage depends on your extended health plan. Many plans include osteopathy, but annual limits, per-visit limits and eligibility rules differ widely between insurers and between employer plans.

At Best Osteopathy you pay at the time of your visit and we give you an itemised receipt. You then submit that receipt to your insurer for reimbursement. We do not currently direct bill.

Does MSP cover osteopathy?

BC’s Medical Services Plan covers osteopathic services only when they are provided by osteopathic physicians who are registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Manual osteopathy sessions at our clinics are not billed to MSP, so you should plan to pay privately and claim through an extended health plan if you have one.

Questions to ask your insurer before booking

A short call can save you an unwelcome surprise. Ask your provider:

  • Does my plan cover osteopathy, or only physiotherapy, chiropractic care and massage therapy?
  • What is my annual maximum, and is there a per-visit limit?
  • Does the plan require a practitioner to belong to a particular association? Our practitioners are members of the College of Registered Manual Osteopaths (CRMO).
  • Do I need a doctor’s referral to be reimbursed?
  • Does the plan cover consultations as well as treatment sessions?

How Much Will a Full Course of Osteopathy Cost?

The honest answer is that it depends on your condition, how long it has been present and how you respond. As an illustration of the arithmetic only, six 45-minute sessions at $125 to $135 each would total roughly $750 to $810 before tax and before any insurance reimbursement. Some patients need fewer visits, and others return for occasional maintenance. Your practitioner will give you an estimate after your first assessment and will review it as you progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see an osteopath in Vancouver?

No. You can book directly online at any of our four locations. Some insurers ask for a referral before they reimburse, so confirm with your plan.

Do you direct bill my insurance?

Not at this time. We provide a receipt after every session so you can submit your own claim.

Can I use a health spending account for osteopathy?

It can be possible, depending on how your employer set up the account. Ask your plan administrator whether osteopathy is an eligible expense.

Why do osteopathy fees differ between clinics?

Fees reflect session length, practitioner training and experience, clinic location and the type of treatment offered. Compare the length of the session as well as the price.
